Modernisation of the signalling, electrification and communications systems on a 473 km line and 48 stations on the Alameda Chillán section.

The line signalling (49 interlocks), electrification (70 km of overhead power lines and 18 substations) and communications (500 km of fibre optics, 70 SDH nodes and IP telephony switchboards) were upgraded and maintenance was carried out for 15 years after commissioning.
