SICE’s expansion story in the United States and Canada is not just about growth; it’s a reflection of the company’s ability to adapt to complex markets, maintain its commitment to quality, and offer technological solutions that transcend borders. A Journey Towards Internationalization: Ready for New Challenges

In the year 2000, SICE laid out an ambitious internationalization plan with a clear goal: expand its technology and expertise into key markets. In 2007, the company established its presence in the United States, starting in Florida, and then replicated this success in Canada in 2013. These decisions were not only strategic but marked the beginning of a transformation that would involve navigating different regulations, adapting to diverse business cultures, and building trust with local stakeholders.

Today, what started as a small team has grown into a multinational operation with over 300 employees spread across 10 offices in cities such as Miami, Houston, Dallas, Toronto, and Windsor. This strategic presence allows SICE to meet local needs while leveraging its global expertise.

Local Adaptation, Global Solutions

One of the biggest challenges for an international company is adapting to local regulations and needs without losing its technological identity. SICE has risen to this challenge by maintaining its innovative essence and ensuring the highest quality in its projects, which has allowed it to stand out in demanding markets such as the United States and Canada.

In the U.S., success came early with the award of the I-595 corridor improvement project in Miami in 2009. This milestone marked the beginning of a long journey of flagship projects, such as the Port of Miami Tunnel and the implementation of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) on I-4 in Orlando. Each new project was an opportunity for SICE to showcase its ability to integrate advanced technology and adapt to the specific demands of each client.

The expansion wasn’t limited to Florida. In Texas, since 2016, SICE has been a key player in projects like the SH288 Toll Lanes and SH249, where it implemented its innovative “free flow” dynamic toll system, along with making improvements in lighting and ITS infrastructure. Virginia has also seen SICE’s impact: the Hampton Roads Bridge & Tunnel Expansion project, one of the largest in the U.S., stands out for the installation of permanent ITS systems.

Crossing Borders: Expansion into Canada

Across the border in Canada, SICE has made its mark on large-scale infrastructure projects such as the Samuel de Champlain Bridge in Montreal and the REM LRT, also in that city. Currently, it is involved in constructing the Gordie Howe International Bridge, a binational project that connects Windsor and Detroit. These projects highlight not only SICE’s technical capabilities but also its ability to coordinate efforts across different countries and regulatory frameworks.

A Bright Future for SICE in North America

SICE’s growth in North America is more than just a business success; it is the realization of a global vision that combines cutting-edge technology with precise adaptation to local demands. The experience gained from flagship projects such as the Seattle tunnels or Toronto’s light rail systems positions SICE as a leader in technological and infrastructure solutions, with a strong foundation to continue expanding into international markets.

Every project completed in the United States and Canada not only reaffirms the company’s ability to meet the highest standards but also its commitment to innovation and excellence. As SICE continues its expansion in North America, its goal remains the same: to offer solutions that not only solve today’s problems but also anticipate the needs of the future.
