The SOTRA CONNECTION project is part of the infrastructure improvement plan launched by the Norwegian government. This initiative includes the construction of 9.4 km of highway, 12.5 km of tunnels, and a 900 m suspension bridge, aiming to connect the city of Bergen with the island of Sotra. The infrastructure also comprises 19 roads and underpasses, 22 bridges and viaducts, and 14 km of sidewalks and bike lanes.
This project is being carried out under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) contract, which covers the financing, design, construction, operation, maintenance, and operation of the infrastructure for a 25-year period, led by the Sotra Link AS consortium. The construction works are implemented by Sotra Link Construction, who will be SICE’s customer.
Within this framework, SICE has been awarded the contract for the complete implementation of electromechanical and automation systems across the entire infrastructure. This includes main and secondary roads, tunnels, bike lanes, bridges, and viaducts. SICE will be responsible for the supply, installation, and commissioning of technical systems, such as lighting, ventilation, traffic management, control, and communications.
This project represents a strategic milestone for SICE in Norway, being the largest road infrastructure contract in the country’s history, awarded by the Norwegian Public Roads Administration (NPRA). The participation in the SOTRA CONNECTION project, known for its iconic suspension bridge, strengthens SICE’s presence in the Nordic countries, adding to other significant projects in the region, such as the Stockholm Bypass in Sweden and the Femern Link in Denmark.
