5 new stations of Lima Metro Line 2 inaugurated

21 December marked the start of operations of Line 2 of the Lima Metro: the first underground rail system in the Peruvian capital, designed to optimise the efficiency of citizens’ journeys, significantly reducing travel times.

Five stations were inaugurated: Evitamiento, Óvalo Santa Anita, Colectora Industrial, Hermilio Valdizán and Mercado Santa Anita. All of them have been equipped with SICE’s cutting-edge technology for ticket sales and validation, a new system that has delighted users by significantly improving their travel experience.

The ticketing solution implemented ranges from the ticketing systems (automatic and manual) and access control (with retractable door aisles) to the portable inspection equipment. All of this is managed from the redundant ticketing control centres via the SIDERA AFC (Portare) software solution developed by SICE.

This set of advanced technologies not only facilitates the user experience, but also ensures the efficient and safe operation of the underground transport system in Lima.

During the first week of operation, according to the Urban Transport Authority for Lima and Callao (ATU), a technical entity linked to the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC), the Metro experienced a remarkable acceptance by the population, with a total of 92,565 users benefiting from free travel on Stage 1A of Line 2 of the Lima and Callao Metro.
