SICE New Zealand celebrates, with the NX2 Consortium, the opening of the new Ara Tūhono – Pūhoi to Warkworth motorway. This new legacy extension to State Highway 1 will significantly improve the New Zealand motorway network’s safety, connectivity and resilience. SICE is proud to have played an essential role in the delivery of the project for the contractor Northern Express Group (NX2).
As New Zealand’s second roading Public Private Partnership, the project had to contend with a range of challenges posed by the impact of COVID-19. The SICE team, alongside our key partners, delivered an outstanding achievement despite the demanding circumstances of restricted personnel movement and pandemic-related lockdowns.
Recognised as one of the most intricate Intelligent Traffic Solutions ever implemented in New Zealand, SICE has provided an end-to-end ITS solution that encompassed the design, construction, commissioning and ongoing maintenance of a myriad of systems, including the Wrong Way Detection (WWD) system, CCTV system, Dynamic Signage, Ramp Metering, Over-heigh Vehicle Detection, Traffic Monitoring system, Automatic Video Incident Detection (AVID), Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR), Road Access Control and the Roadside Emergency Communications Network.
SICE Australia and New Zealand’s Managing Director, Manuel Gonzalez, stated: “The successful implementation of the Pūhoi to Warkworth ITS solution allowed us to build on the New Zealand experience we gained on the Waterview Tunnel project and also access SICE’s international technology expertise”.
SICE New Zealand is thrilled to have contributed to the realisation of this vital infrastructure development, which will undoubtedly enhance New Zealand’s transportation landscape and benefit communities across the region.
