SICE has implemented a centralized traffic management and public transport prioritization system in Alcorcón, leveraging artificial intelligence to enhance urban mobility efficiency.
The project includes the installation of 54 new traffic controllers and the deployment of the SIDERA Traffic platform, enabling comprehensive and centralized management of the city’s traffic light network. The solution integrates 91 AI-powered cameras, used for both traffic surveillance and categorization of 17 vehicle types, as well as priority management based on license plate recognition. It also features a priority module that provides active priority for public transport in Alcorcón. The system, focused on intercity bus lines 511 and 513, dynamically adjusts traffic lights in real time to traffic conditions, reducing congestion and encouraging the use of public transport.
This holistic approach aims to achieve safer, more efficient, and sustainable mobility, accounting for both motorized transportation and active mobility. Furthermore, the system’s scalability offers a replicable model for other cities, laying the groundwork for transforming urban areas into smarter and more sustainable spaces.
The implementation of this innovative solution not only alleviates rush-hour traffic but also strengthens Alcorcón’s commitment to technological innovation and sustainability as it progresses toward becoming a leading Smart City.
