In 2021, the Swedish Transport Administration (Trafikverket) chose SICE to renovate the technical installations of the Tingstad tunnel (Gothenburg). This 455-metre-long tunnel was opened to traffic for the first time in 1968 and, up to the day when the renovation works commenced, approximately 120.000 vehicles travelled daily along its road.
The major complexity of this project concerned its geographical location along the E6 road, which makes Tingstad one of the highest trafficked tunnels in Sweden.
The technical installations had reached the end of their lifetime; therefore, an upgrade was in line so as to equip the tunnel with modern, green and efficient electromechanical systems. Throughout the implementation of the project, SICE has been responsible for the entire design, supply, installation, testing and commissioning works of the electrical, mechanical and automation systems in both tunnel tubes.
As of May 2024, both tunnel tubes are open to traffic.
SICE will remain in charge for the maintenance activities until the end of the year.
