SICE ANZ’s launched a step challenge to fundraise for Australian Foundation for National Parks & Wildlife (FNPW), Australia for United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and Australian and New Zealand Children’s Haematology/Oncology Group (ANZCHOG). The team has successfully achieved the target of 18 million steps during the 14 days-lasting challenge.
Besides promoting and boosting a culture of wellness within the company to get that much-needed exercise for body and mind, SICE launched the ‘Social Distancing, but Stepping Together’ challenge as a way to fundraise for three different projects of three non-governmental organisations. For every 1,000 steps take, SICE donated $1 to the social initiatives, making every step count.
The funds raised have gone to support the FNPW, on its ‘Healing our Land’ project, focused on the recovery of forest and national parks from last summer’s fire season in Australia. Australia for UNHCR has allocated the funds at the COVID-19 Emergency appeal that aims to protect thousands of refugees and Internally Displaced People from fighting against the effects of the pandemic at high-risk countries, guaranteeing their access to health, water, sanitation, and social protection systems. Last but not least, the funds raised for ANZCHOG has helped on the valuable work in research, clinical trials and education that the organisation does in fighting against childhood cancer.
Despite the localised lockdown restrictions and most of the team members working from home, over 160 SICE employees from Australia and New Zealand stepped up to the challenge reaching together an incredible step count of 18,808,526 in just 14 days. The team showed a great commitment with the initiative and about a third part of the contestants got the 20,000 steps, with an outstanding individual daily step average of 10,000 steps, almost 6,30 Km per day.
