With 5 bi-directional mainline and 8 ramp toll gantries, SICE has proceed to completely renovate the all-electronic (free-flow) toll collection system on the Toll 49 Tyler Bypass in Texan Smith County.
After several months of work, in November 2022 SICE Inc. has completed, to the full satisfaction of the North East Texas Regional Mobility Authority (NET RMA), the renovation of the Electronic Toll Collection System (ETCS) for Toll 49 Road that circles the city of Tyler to the west. NET RMA is the authority in charge of implementing transportation solutions that will enhance the quality of life and economic development and promote efficient mobility in the North East Texas.
The works performed by SICE included the design, development, installation, integration, testing, training and commissioning for the renovation of the roadside system as well as the Toll Facility Host (TFH) and a Maintenance Online Management System (MOMS).
Since October 2022, SICE works in the maintenance of the all-electronic toll (AET) systems at 5 bi-directional mainline toll gantries (10 toll zones) and 8 ramp gantries along this toll road.
The systems that compose the toll collection points make it possible to detect and identify all vehicles travelling under the toll gantries without interfering with the flow or traffic conditions. To this end, the SICE system has the hardware, software and communications equipment to manage the interaction with the transponders installed inside the vehicles (users using TxDOT’s TxTAG, NTTA’s TollTag, HCTRA’s EZ TAG, Kansas Turnpike Authority’s K-Tag, or Oklahoma Turnpike Authority’s Pikepass), automatically capture both front and rear images of vehicles (for users who use Pay By Mail for toll payment via license plate, or to identify potential violators), and fully automatically classify based on the number of axles of the vehicles.
The transition from the existing system to SICE Tolling Solution was performed minimizing impact to road users as well as minimizing downtime and revenue loss. After transition, Go-Live, and system fine-tuning, SICE conducted a 30-day System Acceptance Test on which it was demonstrated that the ETCS met or exceeded all functionality requirements and performance SLAs.
With the implementation of the toll system for Toll 49 in Tyler and SH 288 in Houston, along with the contract to implement the roadside toll systems for PRHTA in Puerto Rico, SICE Inc. consolidates its position as a key provider of all-electronic free-flow tolling solutions in the US, where the company has a Toll Competency Center (TCC) located in Houston for the entire United States.
